The third Creative Enterprise Conference will take place on Wednesday 18th May. Please see attached flyer for more details or contact annette.naudin@bcu.ac.uk

The conference will explore a range of approaches in enterprise education in Higher Education from across the EU. Topics to be discussed include: the graduate experience of enterprise projects; incubating creative entrepreneurs, developing entrepreneurial behaviours in students; how competitions can help foster enterprise and emerging research in entrepreneurial journeys.

This conference is born out of the ECCE Innovation (ECCEi) project, which supports interventions in cities to promote the creative and media industries, and aims to inform EU policy. ECCEi fosters collaborative working between EU partners including: Aachen, Birmingham City University, Cardiff, CIDA in Huddersfield, Dublin, Eindhoven, Nantes, Stuttgart.

Presentations and workshops will stimulate a debate leading to further discussions and collaborations. Confirmed speakers include Dr Colette Henry, Dr Daniel Ashton, Fabrice Hyber and Dr Hermutt Roesch.

Hi everyone,

I'm conducting a quick survey on HE creative enterprise to help finalise the direction of my PhD study.  If you can spare 5 minutes the survey is here....

agreed. people should receive more positive reinforcement for their work while they are working!

That sounds excellent Pamela, how wonderful!

I had an alumni in today to help second years, he tracked each of his (not unimpressive) successes back to his uni experiences. The 80 or so extremely positive student feedback sheets say it all. Hopefully we wont have to wait until we retire like George, but what a wonderful accolade!

hi, a few days ago, my school had a festschrift for George Comstock, who recently retired -- tv and violence and kids. several of his students came back and participated in a panel about george's scholarship. they included erica scharrer, kimberly bissell, rebecca reynolds, and jack powers. it was a dynamite session. now george knows that the students he mentors have extended his work in important ways. in addition, other former students returned and spoke briefly about their work with george.

Yep if they are not happy... and stay happy after graduation more importantly, they wont often feedback. We skype in overseas alumni for example, and this week have three in a mini conference for the current students to quiz as they see fit. Our students take more notice of ex students who have studied with us previously than anyone else it seems!!!

Live case studies, where ex students feedback their current problems and successes are especially useful.

Social media is fantastic these days, plus once students have seen previous students contribute it all becomes part of the routine - they like to be seen to feedback themselves after they have left.

If you want any details we did a study on this between 200 and 2005.

We only set up our suite of MAs recently but I'm really hoping we can benefit from our Alumni. Although many are international students - which might make it harder to stay in touch - I'm sure they will be developing very interesting careers. How do you stay in touch with your alumni Andy? Is it mostly through personal contact and developing good relationships in the first place?

Hi again Tim, sorry if may have crossed wires here possibly? You say 'tried' for example? We are fortunate enough to have had some wonderful alumni to help us over the years and have been fully embedded for about 11-12 years now, as picked up by the HEA-ADM in 2007 (rated in top 5) / Higher Education – Business and Community Interaction Survey's 3 year survival survey etc.

I know the wonderful work that you do there, I thought that you had a specific issue that needed addressing? My apologies if that is not the case?

I work with Annette below, who leads on enterprise within our MA suite of awards. We have tried to embed enterprise in our curriculum too. Most of our research and KT work is also linked to issues of enterprise as well. You can find out more about the former at http://www.bcu.ac.uk/pme/school-of-media and more about the latter at http://interactivecultures.org/
